The story

A dessert from Mykonos

The first Calzone Dolce

Chef Gian Luca Barlucchi and Italian-Australian pizza chef Dino Boni created Calzone Dolce in 1995 at the first Bandanna in Kalafatis, Mykonos. After a series of experiments, a folded pizza from the wood-fired oven became a dessert.

Three days, no orders

The idea of pizza with chocolate took some explaining. For its first three days on the menu, the dessert attracted questions but no orders. Gian Luca changed the name to Calzone Dolce, dropped the description and introduced it at a sunset party, with a barbecue, music and a serving for everyone.

Mykonos, in print

Calzone Dolce has found its way into island guides, restaurant reviews and recollections of summers in Mykonos. Grazia, OneMan and Athens Voice tell different parts of that story, from a dessert recommendation to a meal remembered years later. Explore the articles.

Made to share

The crust puffs and browns in the wood-fired oven while the filling melts inside. Cut through it at the table for warm mascarpone and chocolate-hazelnut cream, with a savoury edge to the dough.
